Maintain the correct depth gauge or raker height on your chainsaw chain with the OREGON® Depth Gauge & Flat File Kit.

As chain cutters are sharpened, their height gradually reduces and the depth gauges may also need to be lowered. The drop-centre gauge provides a consistent .025" (0.64mm) setting, helping maintain smooth, controlled and efficient cutting performance.

How to Use

1. Sharpen all chain cutters before checking the depth gauges.
2. Check the depth gauges after approximately every third or fourth cutter sharpening.
3. Place the gauge firmly across the chain cutters, with the depth gauge positioned in the tool’s slot.
4. If the depth gauge protrudes above the tool, file it down until it is level with the top of the gauge.
5. Remove the tool and carefully restore the rounded profile on the leading edge of the depth gauge.
6. Repeat the process on each depth gauge around the chain.

Important: Avoid filing the depth gauges lower than the recommended setting. An incorrectly shaped or excessively lowered depth gauge can cause rough cutting, increased vibration and greater kickback risk.
